IIHF World Girls Hockey Weekend

USA Hockey is looking for associations and rinks to host opportunities to build awareness, celebrate your current players and grow participation for girls’ hockey as part of the sixth annual IIHF Girls’ Hockey Weekend October 7-8, 2017. To participate, host sites can utilize; try hockey for free, cross-ice jamboree, season kick-off party or create an original event to celebrate local female hockey players.

In 2016, nearly 130 locations across the United States celebrated the sixth annual IIHF World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend.

Registration is Open!

Polar Bears –

Registration is open!  There are some changes to the electronic registrationthat will hopefully make the process a little easier.  Some forms will need to be signed and your team managers will get those to you once we start getting on the ice.

The U19s will be starting September 18 in Lewiston and as of right now, the U14s and U10s will start when ice is ready in Moscow.  Registration did go up slightly this year.  We worked to make each team self-supporting.  We still have lots of opportunities for fundraising and players can get sponsors if they are interested.  We have all the tools to help them be successful in finding a sponsor.

We still need confirmed team managers for the U10s and U14s.  Cary will be managing the U19s.

Big Thanks and Upcoming News

Parents and Players,

First, a HUGE thank you to all the parents and players who participated in our fundraisers this past weekend.  It was great fun to support and cheer on the Fondo riders and the car wash was a huge success.  If you brought supplies and need to pick those up, please email Cary at caryrlindsey@gmail.com.

Second, we had planned to host a softball event this weekend but we are rescheduling that for August or September.  Watch for more news on this fun family event!

Third, we would like to have some players in the Lentil Festival parade this year.  The parade is August 19.  Please let me know if you can participate.  The players can walk or rollerblade.

Finally, please remember to start collecting garage sale items and look for more information on that soon.

Thank you,

Are you interested in Coaching Girls Ice Hockey?

The Polar Bears Girls Ice Hockey Program is looking for a Head U14 Coach, an Assistant U14 Coach, and a Head U10 Coach for the 2017- 2018 Season.
I know this email is early but I’d like to have the team Coaching assignments done prior to the season. I’d like to give potential coaches plenty of time to think about it and look into what it would take to become certified. A coach could possibly start some team bonding and dryland practices over the summer if availability permits.
One of the first step in becoming certified is to find, register and attend a USA Hockey Coaching Clinic. These clinic dates and times will not be posted until August or September. We begin our hockey season in October. One may Coach without the certification as long as they attend a clinic before December 2018. This link explains more about “How to become a certified USA Hockey Coach”: http://www.usahockey.com/coachingcertification
As the Hockey Director for the Polar Bears I can help in anyway to help recruit / train / help Coaches become Certified / possibly help with clinic funding and answer any questions one may have, etc…
If you or anyone you know is interested in Coaching and would like to know more please let me know and please pass along their contact information to me.
Thanks,
Laura Wold-Morford
PB Coaching Director
